Sam is the very proud owner of the Polk High Panthers squad. Sam joined Chapter 8 with the establishment of the Minors in 2017 and has been a faithful Roster War-ian ever since.

I am Sam Judd and I was drawn to this Roster Wars World (it's way more than a league) because of the other owners in the Roster Wars Dynasty Club. I attempted to join prior to the establishment of the Minor League Expansion but was overwhelmed with the level of awesomeness this place was and wasn't up to the league standards at the time. That was a self-made declaration, not one that was delivered. From the outside looking in RW can be intimidating, but being on the inside I can tell you that if you are serious about dynasty fantasy football then you're not gonna experience anything better than this place. Fortunately for me and the rest of RW I didn't let my trepidation keep me away.

A little more about me, I was born in Louisville, Kentucky back on September 2nd 1981. Moved around quite a bit growing up and did most of my informative years in Texas, Houston to be exact. In Texas high school football is kinda a big deal. I did my fair share of enjoying it when I could. Went off to college on a partial scholarship to a no name cow patty on the practice field place to realize I needed to move on to other things. Joined the Navy as a rescue swimmer back in June of 2000 and flew and jumped out of the back of helo's for a few years until I found something that gave me way more of a rush than that. Which was my better half, my bride and I have blissfully been married for 18+ years. All thanks to her, she is a saint, cause believe me I can and have been a knucklehead over the years, she is and will always be the best thing that has ever happened to me. Who else would videotape you dancing around in a neon green borat thong?

We have three beautiful children, 2 boys and 1 girl and are working on number 4. Our oldest is 17, our daughter 15, youngest 13 and we are in the process of adopting a 9 year old little girl. It's a process believe me. We are still doing this Navy thing, but the end goal is somewhat in site. It has taken us all over the country, and me all over the world. Which is why we anxiously await that retirement date, so I can sit home and be there all the time. Being away has gotten rougher over the years but man I would be amidst if I didn't say the RW family sure can show their love. It is amazing being around these folks, and having beers with a few. Looking forward to more meetups in the future.

I am a diehard 49er fan, faithful, not like those ones that come out every 5 years when we have a good year. I love football and contributing in different ways to make RW what it is. Bob is my arch rival, a rivalry that blossomed in the Minor league inaugural year when I called his crap team out in the playoffs and he won. I would like to say I have gotten the better of him in our matches, and while statistically so far that is the case the infamous board bet was a ridiculous win for him that I may never come back from. But it was good fun. We shared beers together in Connecticut and I whooped his butt with my Pink Panther team, gotta love it. Wouldn't have it any other way.

The owner of the Polk High Panthers is Sam and he's one good dude. Let's interview him...

Where do you live and/or where are you from?

All over. Was born in Kentucky, lived there until I was 8 then moved to Texas. Lived in San Antonio, Austin, Kerrville and Houston. After graduating high school, I attended Tarleton State University up near Dallas where I dislocated my patella and broke my collar bone my senior year so this no name country school with cow-patties on the practice field was the only place I could continue to pay football. That environment didn’t last long for me, I joined the Navy after the 1st semester and been in the good ol' Nav ever since. Bout to hit my 18th year. So that gets me to where I live, I currently live in the PACNORWEST, almost as north west as you can go till you get to Canada, Whidbey Island WA. We move around every 3 or 4 years. So far I’ve been stationed in Pensacola FL, Jacksonville FL, Norfolk VA, San Diego CA, Patuxent River MD, Manama Bahrain and Whidbey Island WA. So all over.. And I’ve done deployments to Japan, Australia, Thailand, Korea, Malaysia, China, Singapore, Italy, Scotland, Djibouti, Philippines & Diego Garcia.

Who are you in life outside of fantasy football?

Married with 3 kids. Honestly I have an addictive personality, I think if I tried to form another hobby which I do at times I drive the wife nuts. I enjoy hunting, I bow hunt big game, obsess about fantasy football and spend time with the fam. Navy is coming to an end soon so I gotta figure out what is next for me. Technically I can do 26 years in but not sure if I am going to go that much past 20, as you can see from that list of places in the last question I am gone quite a bit and with the kids getting older is sucks more and more. Kids are 14, 12 & 10.

Tell us something that is unusual about yourself?

I kinda led on about it in the “lie to me” thread. Never thought I would characterize myself as a coin collector. In the Navy we have these things called challenge coins and as the years have gone by they have gotten cooler and cooler. I have quite the collection, just from traveling and trading with folks. (Pic attached of one of my favorites)

Who is your favorite NFL team(s)?

There is only one NFL team worthy to be anyone’s favorite and that is the San Francisco 49ers. Qwest for Six !

Who is your least favorite NFL team(s)?

The Dallas Cowgirls suck donkey balls. Funny story, or story how a Texan’s favorite team is a team in California. I was a diehard Oilers fan growing up and when Bud Adams sold the team most us real fans took it hard. He said it was cause of fan support but we all know it was about the money. Anyways no way in hell I was going to route for the Titans, still loved the players but couldn’t do it. So, if you were an Oilers fan the other thing you were was an avid hater of the Cowboys. Cowboys arch rival at the time was none other than the 9ers.

What year did you start playing fantasy football?

I believe it was 2007. I started with the basic work ESPN leagues, realized a few years later I could take it to the next level with keepers, then dynasty, then IDP and now up to superflex. Only step I haven’t taken yet is DEVY.. Still undecided on how I feel about that setting though.

What do you like best about fantasy football?

I love the work you gotta put in to be relevant. From contract structuring, to planning out RFA strategies, to draft analyzation and the artwork of a trade. I love it all. Love it that while you can absolutely just go to a website for a so called “analysts” takes if you don’t do your own homework your capping where you are taking your team.

What is your biggest pet peeve about fantasy football?

Inactive owners. I hate it to the core. Being a commish I can see truly the effects that these turds have on the whole league. From my personal side there is nothing that gets under my skin more than an owner that wants to do a trade but doesn’t want to partake in the work to put it together. I have a league that I am in that while I love I have a few guys in there that you wont ever do a trade with. They will tell you that they are interested and will decline offer after offer saying they don’t like a guy in a deal but wont ever give you anything to work off of, not even a counter.

What is your favorite fantasy football memory?

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away I was in the championship game of a work league and the guy I was going against had just lost his QB the week before. I did what any honorable guy would do and grabbed every QB off the waiver wire that I could. Left him with the worst of the worst to have to grab and play. I was going to win. That QB that he had to play was Tim freaking Tebow and the dude mopped the floor with me. Serves me right.

How many leagues do you play in each year?

Last year I was in 8. I cut 3 this year but ended up adding 1 more. So this year I’m at 6 with at least 1 more that will be cut next year. I prefer IDP and contracts and only 2 of my leagues have that.

If you have changed the number of leagues you play in since joining Roster Wars, what is the change?

Yeah I dropped 3. One the commish just wasn’t putting in the time, didn’t want to cut it and struggled with the decision for a while but ultimately knew I didn’t want to waste my time being in a league that wasn’t doing it for me due to the management of it, was a playoff team too.

The other 2 I cut were other ones that just were there, after being in RW I have realized that I would rather spread my time around those leagues that are special than over just leagues, quality over quantity. One is definitely getting cut next year, sucks cause it is a stacked team but just ready to move on. Only reason I am in it this year is cause my dues were already paid. I did take on a league this year, a new one, and my decision on that was solely cause of the folks in there. I play in a league with Russ and he had an opportunity in one of his leagues, so I now play in 3 leagues with the Russinator and 2 with Carla.

How has your life changed during the years you've been part of RW?

Time management. LOL. I find myself posting or creeping on the RW site and realize hey I need to pay attention to the waiver run about to go down in this other league. RW is helping me manage how and where to use that time cause if I don’t then I lose out on moves and potential gains in other leagues.

What contributions to / RW jobs have you had over the years ?

Last year I tried out writing, probably was a bore to most folks but I wrote the “Mirror Mirror” series to reflect on our initial thoughts after the Minor draft and where folks were towards the end of the season. I enjoyed it and found a new level of respect for all those Wartime press folks as work goes into preparing that stuff. I really enjoyed RW up to that point, but it was then that I knew I had found a home. Soo many folks going that extra mile to contribute to something for everyone elses enjoyment. To bring the fantasy game to a new level and dedicating their time and effort into it. Yeah it was then that I was hooked.
